On the sideline of the United Nations General Assembly, September 2024, Governor Bago joins other global leaders and representatives from around the globe in New York, USA for the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79).
The theme ‘Summit of the Future’ is intended to reshape global priorities and accelerate action on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Goals (SDGs) to build an equitable, inclusive, and resilient future for all.
The Governor participated in the opening session as the world entered the second half of the 2030 Agenda to assess progress toward the SDGs at both global and local levels.
Niger State with its growing young population of over 6 million, stands at a crucial juncture in its efforts to achieve the SDGs. While progress has been in infrastructure, and Agriculture towards some of the SDG indicators, significant challenges remain in ensuring equitable health outcomes sustainable urban and rural developments, and reduction in property.
The ability of the State to implement policies, mobilize resources, and engage communities is key to translating national strategies into local successes.
The Governor of Niger State was engaged in a series of meetings, deliberations, and discussions aimed at identifying pathways towards meeting specifically the SDGs 1,2,3 and 11. SDG 3 and SDG 11 are not just goals-they are the foundation upon which all other Sustainable Development Goals are built.
These side events highlight the vital role of using technology, accountability, and partnerships in realizing these goals. The Government of Niger State will heavily be relying on its resources and massive investments in agriculture in the attainment of its Sustainable Development Goals.
