During the session highlighting the National Orientation Agency’s Scorecard since the arrival of Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu on Radio Kwara, the Director General disclosed that all 14 prayers recently approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) are centered around the creation of a Nigeria’s National Identity.
He explained that the approved Citizen Value brigade, Citizenship studies and Nationalisation of Cartoon contents amongst others approved are geared towards the creation of Nigeria’s National Identity and further indoctrination of Nigeria’s values and identity in the Youths- the demographic that takes up the majority of Nigeria’s population.
Also on the programme, the Director General explained that purpose of the National Values Charter was to call both leaders and the citizens to order, recalling how in previous times the counselling on nation building was only geared towards the people, leaving out the Leaders who ought to lead by example. He added that the adherence to the Charter is the only way to truly set sail on the journey to Nationhood.
The Director General also reiterated that the Agency’s job is anchored on Moral Persuasion as opposed to direct enforcement in regards to law breakers. Law enforcement agencies have their roles and the National Orientation Agency’s role is to rectify these decadence from a moral standpoint. He added that the Agency’s approach would be to create an uncomfortable environment for wrongdoers.
In his closing remarks, the Director General urged Nigerians to align their actions to their wishes for a prosperous nation to enable a better Nigeria for all.
