In a significant move to bolster global efforts toward gender equality, Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, FSI, held a bilateral meeting with the UK’s Minister for Africa and Multilateral Affairs, Lord Collins of Highbury, on the sidelines of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) in New York. The meeting centred on deepening collaboration to enhance women’s political and economic inclusion, preparing for the upcoming Nutrition for Growth Conference, and addressing the pressing issue of conflict-related sexual violence.

HM Sulaiman-Ibrahim emphasised the importance of strategic partnerships in ensuring that women and girls receive the opportunities, protection, and support necessary to thrive. She noted that united efforts are crucial in driving meaningful change on a global scale.

Lord Collins, appointed as the UK’s Minister for Africa, UN, Commonwealth, and Human Rights in October 2024, highlighted the UK’s commitment to supporting women’s development and addressing issues such as gender-based violence.

This meeting underscores the shared commitment of both nations to empower women and girls, recognising their critical role in shaping sustainable urban futures and contributing to global development.
