In a significant step toward strengthening bilateral relations, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, on Friday, December 13, 2024, welcomed a delegation from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Defence University (PLA) to the Army Headquarters in Abuja. Led by Rear Admiral Hu GangFeng, the Chinese delegation aimed to explore areas of cooperation, foster a robust relationship, and promote mutual understanding in training and military education between the two armies.
Addressing the delegates, the COAS, represented by the Deputy Chief of Training (Army), Major General Etsu-Ndagi, highlighted the Nigerian Army’s (NA) extensive experience in combating terrorism and insurgency. He emphasized the critical importance of tailoring operations to address specific security challenges. The COAS noted that sustained training, equipping, and the adoption of dynamic operational strategies have significantly enhanced the NA’s effectiveness in counter-terrorism operations. He further stated that these efforts have led to the decimation of terrorist groups and the reduction of security threats across the country.
Rear Admiral Hu GangFeng, speaking on behalf of the Chinese delegation, reaffirmed China’s commitment to international military cooperation and pledged support to the NA, particularly in the area of training. He emphasized the importance of shared learning and collaboration, noting that the delegation included representatives from various departments of theatre command, military services, and course participants. Their visit, he explained, is geared toward exchanging ideas and fostering a stronger, long-lasting relationship between the two military institutions.
