The Federal and Benue state governments are set to take livestock development to the next level.
Livestock Development Minister, Idi Mukhtar Maiha stated this today in his office in Abuja, when he received in audience, the Director General of the Benue state Bureau for Livestock Development, Dr Aondoakaa Asambe, who paid the Minister a courtesy call.
The Minister made it clear that the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development will not impose any livestock Development project on any state whatsoever, adding that the initiatives will have to come from states and communities.
This, the Minister said, is the way to go, so that states and communities can take ownership of projects their localities.
The Minister indicated his interest to visit Benue state to interface with relevant stakeholders on livestock Development, going forward.
Earlier in his presentation, the Director General of the Benue state Bureau for Livestock Development, told the Minister that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Benue state has indicated his desire to visit the Minister to discuss the possibility of parternering with the Federal government on a comprehensive piggery farming and processing initiative within the special Agro-processing zone in the state.
In a letter to the Minister, Governor Alia stated that Benue state holds significant potential for large- scale piggery farming due to its favourable climate and agricultural background.
The Minister said the desire to visit each other is a clear indication of a strong and evolving synergy between Benue state and the Federal government, adding that the “Alia” the better.
