Abuja, Nigeria – January 18, 2025
The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, fsi, alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Dr. Mariam Ismail Keshinro, and the FCT Women Mandate Secretary, Dr. Oladayo B. Olaniyi, played host to Dr. Nurdeen Abubakar Zauro, the Technical Advisor on Economic and Financial Inclusion to the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The courtesy visit, aimed at fostering collaboration and seeking the Ministry’s endorsement, centered around the upcoming 1st Gender International Conference, scheduled to hold on January 30-31, 2025, at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja. The conference, themed “Breaking Barriers, Building Resilience for Sustainable Economic and Financial Inclusion,” will be officially declared open by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON.
Dr. Zauro informed the Ministry that the conference will also witness the launch of the Gender Inclusion Initiative of the Aso Accord on economic and financial inclusion, titled “ShesIncluded.” This groundbreaking initiative seeks to transform the landscape for women’s resilient and inclusive participation in economic and financial activities in Nigeria.
In her remarks, the Honourable Minister commended the initiative, emphasizing the vast and crosscutting nature of the gender space in Nigeria. She acknowledged the Ministry’s limitations in addressing all challenges alone and welcomed collaborative initiatives aimed at advancing the economic empowerment of women, children, families, and vulnerable groups.
The Honourable Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to its coordinating role, ensuring that gender-related issues are properly synergized, documented, and translated into effective policy actions, implementation, and monitoring of progress.
Signed:
Mr. Jonathan Eze,
Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs.
