In order to ensure the buy -in and successful implementation of Mr. Presidents’ Reform Agenda in the Livestock Sector, the Honorable Minister of Livestock Development, Alh Idi Mukhtar Maiha⁩, from the 26-30th December 2024 paid advocacy visits to: the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Ahmadu Umar Fintiri; His Royal Highness the Lamido of Adamawa, Alh Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustafa; the Emir of Mubi, Alhaji Abubakar Isa Ahmadu; the District Head of Jalingo-Maiha, Barrister Mahmud Abubakar Suleman and the District Head of Mbilla District, Alhaji Usman Abubakar Suleman.

The Minister also met with representatives of livestock producer associations/groups in Yola and livestock marketers & processors in Mubi, atnthe Mubi International Cattle Market. During the various engagements, the Minister informed the esteemed stakeholders of the President’s plan to reform the sector to attain self-sufficiency in animal product supply and drastically reduce farmer-herder conflicts.

The Minister added that the reform process will start with genetic Improvement of animals so that they produce more products per head, efficient animal health services to prevent and manage animal diseases, feed and fodder development to ensure that our animals consume qualitative feed in the right quantities, animal identification/tagging and traceability to ensure proper identification of our animals, tracking of animals and tracing of animal products.

The Minister then presented the Ministry’s branded vest to the critical stakeholders as an insignia of collaboration.

He added that the Federal Government will collaborate with the state, local governments and community leaders as well as pastoral organizaations to achieve these results.

The Executive Governor of Adamawa State commended the President for appointing a competent hand as the Minister and promised the full cooperation of Adamawa State. The Governor added that they are removing all encumerances on the grazing reserves and stock routes in the state to enable full their utilization by the herders.

All the other stake holders appreciated the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for creating the Ministry and appointing their son as the pioneer minister. They promised to cooperate fully with the Ministry to ensure that Nigeria`s livestock sector is transformed into a modern, vibrant and sustainable sector.

The engagements identified grazing reserves and stock routes development, financial inclusion, tailor-made financing, re-orientation and youth employment as strategies to develop the sector and manage farmer-herder conflicts.
